Sam's Rock - Samantha Ann McDonald

Start Your Own SAM'S ROCK Group

Sam's Rock started with just two moms deciding to meet and pray for the school. We began inviting other moms and soon the group was formed. We decided to meet on Monday mornings in the school cafeteria at 9:00am. Eight people attended our meeting the first Monday. The following week the name Sam's Rock came; and the write up about its meaning, followed by the t-shirts. After a few weeks of getting together, we now have anywhere from 10 to 40 adults and non-school age children coming to our meetings each week. We would still meet even if there were only two of us; prayer is POWERFUL.

"For where two or more come together in my name, there I am with them."
— Matthew 18:20

We informed our principal of our plans; and he told us he didn't see a problem with us having our meeting in the school cafeteria. Though he does not publicly endorse our group, nor does he or the staff participate in our school hour meetings, we have his personal support. Our meeting is not against any federal, state, county or school laws. To many, this has been a surprise, but we claim God's Word that says,

"the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."
— 1 John 4:4

We start our meeting with a devotional, then get praise reports (stories of answered prayers), take prayer requests, and then do a "popcorn" type prayer. One person begins the prayer with praise, and those who wish to pray aloud for the requests randomly join in. We try to keep our meeting to one hour. The cafeteria is not in use for an hour and 50 minutes so many stay around to socialize. We don't meet when school is not in session; and we would hold our meetings at a different location if the school cafeteria was in use for some other purpose. On occasion, we have evening meetings for those who are not able to attend our morning meetings.

So, grab a like-minded friend, set a time and date, start praying, and watch God begin to work in your school and community.

"...you have not, because you ask not."
— James 4:2

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of Him."
— 1 John 5:14–15
